Crisis Mode Activated

Lately, it's felt like I have been in crisis mode. I think it is all the free time getting to my head. For the first time in months, I have the free time to think about my future; that inevitably sends me spiraling into an existential crisis of "what is my life?".

Firstly, I realize how close graduation and the rest of my life is. I only have two more years of schooling before I am thrown head first into the working world. Like everyone always tells you, once freshman year of college is over, the rest of your life goes by in a blink. I still haven't fully processed that last semester is really over.

On top of that, I am faced with being a broke college student. I recently just paid $232 for four college text books that I will probably never open. The sad part is that I am still missing books for three more classes I will be taking this semester.

Like most college students, my bank account is taking a large hit. It's gotten to the point where if I don't get a job soon then I will have literally nothing. Unfortunately, my lack of a car (due to my old one getting totaled in a hail storm)  leaves me unable to get a job until May at the earliest; when I can borrow my brother's car to transport me around.

I think the fact that there is literally nothing I can do about my current state is what scares me. Once again, I've spent hours awake at night, just thinking of the inevitable and how utterly screwed I am, yet have no ability to change the outcome of these events.

I want a job, but the shortness of winter break at home and lack of transportation at college won't let me. I want a successful career, but the fear of another new chapter in my life makes me want to crawl back to age 2 when the world was all coloring books and make believe.

This crisis has left me to my own thoughts at three in the morning. As they say, nothing good ever happens after two in the morning. So naturally, my mind is screwed too.

Sometimes I wish life came with a switch to turn my mind off. Over these short weeks on break, I think I'd much rather be on auto-pilot. That way it would be simpler and stress free. Then the first week of classes I'll just switch myself back into manual, when I won't have money and my future (or the world in general) on my mind due to the swamping of work.

Can someone invent that? I don't want to miss my life, I just want to bypass the difficult stuff for a little while. Not forever, just until I get a steady career and happiness sorted. Nothing special, but still meaningful.

Much love,
Elly

Word Count & Plans

As you may know, I participated in NaNoWriMo this year. For more info on that, please visit THIS blog post I made talking about the subject. This post, however, is just to let you know how far I ended up with my novel and what I plan on doing with it.

At the end of November, my official word count for NaNoWriMo 2014 was 27,959 words. I am insanely proud of that number! Seeing as I barely wrote 5000 the year before, I am completely over the moon! I knew I wouldn't complete all 50,000 words this year just due to the sheer amount of work I was doing for school, but I never imagined even coming close to the number I got.

November was a beyond stressful month for me. The whole month was quite literally spent writing, whether it was for school or NaNoWriMo. It wasn't until Thanksgiving break where I actually had time to myself, and I knew very well that once break hit I would lose my writing momentum and stop writing for my novel.

In my old blog post on NaNoWriMo, I mentioned that I would probably use whatever I did write for future blog posts. However, I don't think I will be doing that after all. When I wrote that blog post I never believed I would finish over half of the novel in such little time. Because of that, I intend on holding onto my work. As I have said many times in the past, one of my goals in life is to become a published author. If this novel could be the one that gets picked up, I wouldn't want to waste all my hard work on separating it into blog posts.

But who knows, maybe a few months from now I'll change my mind and slowly release the novel's content onto this blog. Until then, I will enjoy the fact that I succeeded in writing my heart out in November, even if I didn't complete the novel. I wrote to my fullest and that's all I can really ask for. Nothing special, but still meaningful.

Much love,
Elly

Bath & Body Works Haul

Can I just start off by saying: I think I have a Bath & Body Works addiction. My three addictions that I believe you can never have too much of are books, mugs, and Bath & Body Works. This week when I came home for Thanksgiving break, I found myself in Bath & Body Works twice. So naturally, I bought a lot of stuff that I thought I'd share with you.

On my first trip, I went with the mission of buying body wash (since my dad used up all my spare bottles while I was away!). The store was having a special of buy 3 get 3 free, mix and match of anything on one wall of their store. So I opted to get six body washes to last me ages.

I purchased three from their Holiday Traditions collection: Sugar Plum Dream, Winter Candy Apple, and Twisted Peppermint. Without researching it, I believe Sugar Plum Dream is the only new scent in that collection this year. Sugar Plum Dream reminds me of an artificial snow scent mixed with something sweet. Winter Candy Apple was one of my staples last year; it is a cozy scent mixed with light tints of apple and sugar. Finally, we have Twisted Peppermint. This scent is, in my opinion, the best peppermint product B&BW does by far. It's scent is very potent and leaves you wishing you have actual peppermint to munch on.

The other three I got for free were two bottles of Amber Blush and a bottle of men's Dark Amber (not pictured) as a present for my dad. Amber Blush is one of my favorite scents. It is a warm, royal scent that seems feminine, yet slightly masculine at the same time. The men's Dark Amber is essentially the same as Amber Blush, only it removed the feminine tones and increased the mens'. This picture additionally shows a bottle of Cool Coconut Surf and a travel bottle of Oahu Coconut Sunset. These are two bottles I still have left over from my last B&BW shop a few months back, and they both have the most amazing coconut scents. My old large bottle of Oahu is the body wash my dad kept using of mine! The scent is to die for! However, Coconut Surf is a decent enough replacement for your coconut fix.

Moving straight on the my second trip, I went on Black Friday. However, they had the buy 3 get 3 free mix and match deal on the whole store this time. So obviously, I took the special to my advantage and stalked up on my dwindling candle collection.

The first candle I instantly picked up was the newly packaged, Cinnamon Caramel Swirl from the winter collection. This was by far one of my favorite candles last year. I burnt it down all December, so the smell of it brings back memories of Christmas. It is a very warm but sweet caramel scent that will instantly fill up a room. The larger it burns, the more of the underlying vanilla and cinnamon scents you can smell. But be warned, this candle has a VERY powerful scent that can be smelled for miles. If you don't like sweet tones that live in your house hours after blowing them out then this isn't the candle for you!

Next I picked the Mint Mocha Bark candle from the White Barn collection. I feel like the best way to describe this scent is like sticking your nose in a box of thin mints you can buy from girl scouts. It is very minty, but the chocolate tones in it just make your mouth water. I believe this scent is based on, if not an enhanced version of their Mint Chocolate candle they released last year at this time, which I burned the majority of January earlier this year.

Moving right along, I finally picked up the Champagne Toast candle. For the longest time I was never able to find this candle in stores until now. It is a very fruity scent, yet you can't quite pin point which fruits. It slightly reminds me of one of the Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum flavors I used to love as a kid, yet I can't remember which flavor precisely. Nonetheless, it is a very sweet scent that I have high hopes for while burning.

This next candle is probably one of my all time favorites, as you can probably tell because I couldn't resist just picking up one (in fear of it being discontinued). This is the Green Apple Orchard candle. I grew up on an orchard and green apples are my favorite scent, so you must realize how incredibly happy I was to discover this candle. The name definitely holds true to the scent. Whenever I smell it, I almost feel like I'm standing in the middle of a field with an apple to my nose. However, this candle also adds woody tones to bring the image to life. This candle has much more of a rustic apple smell than the Farmstand Apple candle (which is another favorite), as well as being more realistic than any of the apple cinnamon candles I've tested.

The last candle I picked up was actually one for my brother (however I was nearly about to keep it for myself). This is the Butterscotch Toffee candle from the White Barn collection. This candle is warm and sweet as can be. It reminds me of my Cinnamon Caramel Swirl, but without the cinnamon and more caramel mixed with butterscotch sweetness. I have yet to smell this candle lit, but I can only imagine how sweet it will make the room. The only reason I didn't buy it myself is because I feared that the sweetness of the candle in the room would trigger a very strong headache if left burning too long.

Lastly, my brother also picked up a few hand sanitizers for himself that I thought I'd also show you. I won't go into full detail on the scents, but I can assure you that they all smell heavenly.

Needless to say, I am looking forward to fully experiencing all these new candles and body washes! I hope you enjoyed this little Bath & Body Works haul, and expect more in the future because yes, I am obsessed with the place! Additionally, this post is NOT sponsored. I am merely just an avid Bath & Body Works costumer that is sharing what I enjoy and purchased! Nothing special, but still meaningful.

Much love,
Elly
